Eastern Towhee

A new visitor to our garden this year, the Eastern Towhee.
A member of the American Sparrow family, the Eastern Towhee rumages in the undergrowth hunting for seeds and insects. This is probably why every time I see him he is foraging for the sunflowers dropped from the finch feeder by the smaller birds. It was even hard to capture a shot of him with the camera and he frequently ducked for cover under nearby shrubs and evergreens.
