Hairy Woodpecker

A Hairy Woodpecker enjoys a feast on a rotting stump in the back.
Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers are common in our area and across North America and I am fortunate to have both in our yard. They frequently visit the suet feeders I put out in winter and seed feeders during the summer.
It's not hard to tell the difference between a Downy Woodpecker and a Hairy Woodpecker if you look close. The Downy Woodpecker is smaller and has a short bill while the Hairy Woodpecker is slightly larger but more noticeably has a long bill.
