Peonies In The Garden
I added my first peony to our new gardens in 2006 and have added at least two new varieties each year ever since. The best year so far for peonies was 2009 as we had no heavy rains in June to spoil the blooms that year.
Peonies have been cultivated in gardens for more than 2000 years and no wonder. Flowers come in a range of colours including yellow, peach, coral and lavender in addition to the more traditional white, pink and red. Peony blooms can be single, semi-double and double and are usually frangrant. Peonies are long lived. Once planted they can live more than 50 years. They are very cold hardy (zone 2) and drought tolerant. What more could there be to celebrate?
