Roses Steal The Show

I love roses however have over the years slowly removed many from my gardens. Black spot, Japanese Beetles and strong winter winds have made keeping roses on our property difficult. I miss those I have removed but still enjoy the few that remain.

By mid June, what was my front Rose Garden is in it's first full bloom.

A close up of the blooms on my Climbing Rose 'Angela'. The scent on this rose is very strong although I have yet to see it fully climb the rose trellis.

Although I loved these Carefree Beauty shrub roses they are susceptible to black spot and need to be sprayed regularly. After struggling a couple of years after the Ontario pesticide ban I finally had to remove them from my garden.

Another rose, The Fairy, removed from my gardens in 2010. Even spraying with organic sulphur was not something I wanted to keep up regularly.

Still a star performer in my garden are Lilli Marlene floribunda roses. The deep red blooms have bloomed non-stop, it grows very quickly despite winter die back and the foliage has stayed very healthy. The smaller size of these rose bushes make hand removal of Japanese Beetles manageable.
